In this fast-moving world, where technology is always at our fingertips, many traditional craftsmanship struggle to catch up and fit into the digital era.

“A Woven Matness” is an interactive installation, that celebrates the authentic craftsmanship of Tikar Mengkuang, which is one of Malaysia’s proudest crafts. In Malay language, Tikar means mat, where as Mengkuang are screw palms, in which the leaves are weaved into floor mats.

QR codes, that leads to documentaries of the process of tikar weaving, are weaved into the mats and camouflaged itself within the traditional patterns. Audiences are encouraged to wander through a hallway of woven layerings, and scan the QR codes along the way, to understand more about the making of these tikar.
