Olivia Au Hiu-yan

With a Bachelor of EID from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, I decided to pursue my interest in design as my career.  The opportunity to join Woods Bagot as an Interior Designer gives me chances to work on various retail projects that allow me to utilize my skills and enrich my job knowledge in different aspects.

My inspiration in design comes from a multitude of things, but travel inspires me tremendously. Ideas can come from a restaurant I dined, an art museum I visited or an architecture I saw during the trip. I am always looking for ways to incorporate what I see around the world into my design.

What I love the most about designing is the process of creation. I would say that with the start from an inspiration, then follow by every piece of the effort to make impossible things exist is a really lovely experience!

In a few years’ time, land in HK will become insufficient to supply all people to stay in. Imagine having your own space in the underground, and by using secret codes to communicate within spaces?

This project is about the story of the underground secret community “The Explorian”. People discovered the underground tunnel in Tsuen Wan. They occupied and extended this underground space through different directions and develop their activities in this hidden space, like dark farming, glowing arts which likely to happen in the dark. In order to protect their secret space, they developed secret codes to communicate and to identify spaces. It leads to how the space is formed, and how people develop a relationship with the space.
