  • THE MILLS

Glass recycling has not been very successful in Hong Kong throughout the years – only 10% of all waste glass bottles being recycled, with the rest (over 200 tonnes) being sent to landfills every day.  There are not enough people recycling their glass bottles, and so the glass recycling industry suffers from lack of raw materials, which subsequently leads to very limited usage of recycled glass in Hong Kong (used for pavements bricks only).

We hope to “make noise”, literally, by engaging the public in the first step of glass recycling, i.e. crushing the glass bottles into smaller pieces to raise their awareness in the recycling process.  Visitors can insert their own bottles and crush them with our “machine”  that has a simple mechanism and makes loud  sound. The fragments were collected in the tray and removed periodically for the glass recycler.  We hope it will make an impact on participants and they will change their way of recycling glass bottles in daily lives.
